Edited by: Isidor Sek on 25/02/2006 14:18:11 Good day everyone
I am professor Isidor Sek, eve historian and editor of a new EVE newspaper launching next week. As such, on the eve of what will probably come to be know as GNW II. I wanted to ask veterans of the original conflict for some help on some background facts of GNW I, so that our reportage can be based on a factual and broad picture of the original conflict.
Firstly, of course, I accept that the events of the last week or so can not truly be called GNW II until BoB arrives.. at this point the circle will be complete. However please forgive my paper if we save the confusion and refer to events in the north as GNW II.
Our Questions:
Roughly what date did the GNW I begin and end? What Alliances and major independant corps took part? How were the sides divided, who was on each side? Which alliances / corps were born of the conflict or disappeared during its course? In your own opinion what events lead to the beginning of the conflict and what events lead to its end? What in your opinion was GNW I's greatest moment, wether a specific battle, galnet broadcast etc etc
(PLEASE NOTE: express your own version of events, do not crtique others here, we are trying to collect peoples memories together then deduce an overall picture ourselves)
All witness statements and informnation appreciated, along with our coverage of GNW II, we would like to run a background feature on the first so readers have a sense of context.
Thanks

In which case, if many of you do not wish to call it GNW II I must ask what it is.. its scale is the same. All Northern states at war, G/IRON invading FE last night, PA falling to 5 forces this week... FE under attack in the south.. NBSI fighting.. well everyone... with the exception of NORAD (small North central) and BoB attacking from the west, its all there..
As such one has to ask what the essential difference is? if it revolves around one person speaking or not speaking on these forums, one has to ask what defines war in eve.
For the purposes of our reporting we will continue to refer to it as Great North War II until such time as a better more appropiate term is provided or some provides a sensible explaination as to why it is not.
Thanks

Indeed that is true,
I suspect however the conflict will produce those.. persh of FE springs to mind as one example... however a conflict is not defined simply by who ranted most about it. It is its scale, how much spoace it encompasses and the impact it has.
Already GNW II is radically redrawing the map of the North, it deserves the name for that reason alone.

Actually slother i think 5 would be most insulted by your indication they are a northen alliance. I believe they initiated the GNW II from coming quite frimly from the south.

Edited by: Isidor Sek on 25/02/2006 15:17:48 Edited by: Isidor Sek on 25/02/2006 15:17:24 Daxes,
Germany 'claimed' France as territory in world war II.. it didnt suddenly make them french did it.
5 was a Southern Alliance, they were defeated by RA and lost thier southern space, they headed north and attacked PA. Notice the proliferation of the word south there. In essence some of 5 is still in the south in a new alliance, while the morecarebear elements of 5 live in Syndicate. So no, they're not a Northern Alliance, they may well become one though.
Thanks

Edited by: Isidor Sek on 25/02/2006 15:32:52 I suspect Dax you are splitting hairs here, quite substantially. I am not saying that 5 will not become a northern alliance. I am saying they are not now. Not all of 5 are here by any measure. Its ATUK in the majority. The rest of 5 are located in Syndicate and in the south.
However you have thankfully demonstrated why we felt a new eve news service is required, the scope is frequently ill informed, lacks in depth editorial and tends to gloss over facts in favour of whoever they can interview at the time. Thus we do not wish to replace Scope, but do want to offer another voice and broaden the range of news sources. we all miss Eve Guardian in this aspect.
Thanks

PS: Its good we should disagree, a free press should do just that, offer broad differing views! |

LOL nicky.. yes indeed.. but unlike other news sources i bothering to canvas a broad range of opinion and witnesses BEFORE going to print.. unlike other news sources who interview 1 guy and call it fact. |
